Job Description

Job Summary:


The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans. This role involves operating state-of-the-art equipment, inspecting instruments, maintaining inventory, and ensuring quality assurance in a sterile processing department.

Location:New York, United States

Responsibilities:


- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Operate steam sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, aerators, and other related equipment.
- Prepare cultures, review test packs, and interpret results to ensure sterility.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures.
- Receive, store, and document supplies from vendors and hospital areas.
- Document and fill orders for surgical supplies for patient care areas.
- Maintain records of equipment inventory, use, and servicing.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and procedure carts.
- Answer unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Perform data entry into electronic medical database systems.
- Document patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Perform selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinate equipment/supply needs.
- Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.

Required Skills & Certifications:


- Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
- Large hospital experience (500 bed plus)
- Travel experience (6 months)
- Two professional references from the last two assignments

Preferred Skills & Certifications:


- Level 1 trauma center experience
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
- Orthopedic tray experience

Special Considerations:


- Evenings, weekends, and holidays required
- On-call/callback per unit needs

Scheduling:
- 40 hours per week
- Shift type: Evenings
- Specific shift details determined by unit needs
