Arboreal Management is a mission-driven property management company focused on affordable and workforce housing in the Pacific Northwest. We manage over 5,000 homes with integrity, care, and a commitment to long-term community success. Our approach combines strong operations, deep compliance expertise, and modern technology to deliver exceptional outcomes for residents, partners, and regulators.
As we expand further into deed-restricted affordable housing, our portfolio includes LIHTC, Bond, Project-Based Voucher, and Amazon HEF–funded homes, with upcoming growth in HUD programs.
We’re seeking a Director of Affordable Housing Compliance to lead all aspects of compliance across our growing portfolio. This is a foundational hire who will establish Arboreal’s centralized compliance function, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of regulatory accuracy, audit readiness, and program integrity.
Beyond compliance operations, this leader will also play a critical role in shaping our business strategy for growth in affordable housing . You will represent Arboreal at industry forums, engage with third-party owners, and serve as a public-facing leader who strengthens our reputation as a compliance-driven, mission-forward manager.
Compliance Leadership
Oversee compliance with all applicable LIHTC, Bond, HUD, and Section 8 program requirements
Develop and enforce company-wide compliance policies, SOPs, and controls
Ensure timely and accurate execution of certifications, recertifications, reporting, and inspections
Lead audit and monitoring processes, including responses to state agencies, housing authorities, syndicators, and investors
Team & Infrastructure Development
Build and manage a centralized compliance team, including potential offshore staff
Train and support property site teams to ensure compliance knowledge and accuracy
Establish QA/QC processes to prevent and resolve findings
Systems & Process Innovation
Partner with internal teams to design and implement compliance technology, workflows, and reporting dashboards
Ensure scalability, transparency, and audit readiness as the portfolio grows
Stakeholder Relations
Serve as the primary compliance liaison with state allocating agencies, PHAs, HUD, investors, and lenders
Represent the company during compliance reviews, audits, and regulatory meetings
Support investor and lender reporting requirements with timely, accurate submissions
Business Building & Industry Leadership
Partner with executives to craft the company’s strategy for growth in regulated affordable housing
Build trust and credibility with third-party owners, strengthening Arboreal’s value as a management partner
Participate in conferences, working groups, and industry associations as the compliance “face” of Arboreal
Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in affordable housing programs and regulations, helping shape company positioning
8–10+ years of affordable housing compliance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or director-level role
Deep expertise in LIHTC compliance; direct experience with HUD (PBRA), Section 8, and Bond programs strongly preferred
Proven ability to establish or revamp compliance functions at scale
Skilled at managing both local and remote compliance staff
Strong track record of successful interactions with auditors, regulators, investors, and syndicators
Experience interfacing directly with property owners, boards, and senior stakeholders
Tech-savvy and comfortable driving process improvements through systems
Exceptional attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to train/mentor teams
Passion for equitable housing and regulatory excellence
